CHARACTER'S TITLE;;
high school junior, local, sighted mortal
THE BASICS;;
Anna Scarlette Foras was born on June 14th, 1995 in New Orleans, Louisiana to a single mom - Jessica. She is a high school student with no part-time job or extra circulars. She is, however, a sighted mortal – meaning that she is able to see fairies, and not by choice. Anna has a boyfriend – Maxwell Oliver Tyree. Despite their near constant bickering, the two are very close and share everything.
APPEARANCE;;
Anna is actually pretty skinny, and not because she wants to be. Often she can’t eat enough, so of course she has a sort of anorexic look, but she’s really not a victim of that disease. Her hair is long and dark brown, with light brown eyes set in her round face. Anna’s main attire is jeans and t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies in colder weather, and tennis shoes – always tennis shoes. Unless you look closely, she can seem pretty plain and unordinary. She’s become good at blending in to crowds and walls, being unseen in a sea of faces. Anna also tends to bite at her nails or finger tips, so they look kind of awful a majority of the time.
PERSONALITY;;
+SMART: Anna is very intelligent and clever. She always has been. In school, she’s been top of her class in most everything, and she works really hard. Mainly this is so she can get out of New Orleans after she graduates, but that’s not likely to happen either… Anna’s not sure where he smarts come from, as she sees her mom as not very bright, and she doesn’t even know who her father is, but she’s thankful for them anyways. She’d rather be smart any day.
+LEVEL HEADED: Because of certain things happening in her life, Anna is pretty level headed. She likes to think through decisions before making them, just to be sure she’s doing what’s right for herself, and so on. Of course, sometimes this means it takes her longer to make up her mind, but most of the time it’s worth it when things don’t go badly. Anna’s also worked hard to learn how to keep her cool in certain situations and not show her emotions or fear, and she’s gotten pretty good at it. So staying calm in stressful situations also comes in handy most of the time.
+/-STUBBORN: Of course Anna has her stubborn side. Once she believes something, it takes a lot to change her mind or make her see another view. Mainly this is because of what she’s been through as a child… Though having a stubborn streak has gotten her out of trouble, it’s also gotten her IN trouble as well, so it’s both a negative and a positive, depending on the situation.
-SHY: As in painfully shy. Anna hates being around or near people, talking to people she doesn’t know well, or having to meet new people. She’d rather stay shut up in her room, or just hide behind Max… But often she’s pushed into a spotlight that she doesn’t want to be under. This is explained more in her history.
-LOW SELF-ESTEEM: Anna does not see herself in the best of lights. She has never been complimented, only made fun of, so she doesn’t know what it’s like to constantly be called beautiful. Max is trying to change this, but it’s a slow process. Though Anna doesn’t really have flaws that she tries to over exaggerate about herself… It’s more like she just doesn’t see all the good things about herself, because she’s never had someone point them out.
Anna is not typically a happy person, unless she is with Max. On a daily basis, she’s kind of surly and unemotional, just blending into the shadows and crowds and trying to stay unnoticed – by humans and fairies alike. Because she’s a mortal with Sight, she’s always been able to see fairies. From a young age, she’s learned to hide this ability from everyone, and not to mention the strange creatures that she sees on the streets and in all the places of New Orleans. Though she’s smart and pretty, she’s often been made fun of for the drawings and paintings of the fairies that she sees. Mainly she does this to get her aggravations out, though everyone just thinks that she’s stuck in her imaginary world.
Thus, when someone approaches her, she’s immediately shutting down and trying to get out of the situation as soon as possible. The only person that she seems to be able to stand for more than two minutes is Max.
HISTORY;;
Anna Scarlette Foras was born to Jessica Foras on a lovely spring day. Jessica is a New Orleans socialite, and was never seen with the same date more than three times in public or at events. So it was no wonder that she had no idea who the child’s father was. Nevertheless, the first few years of Anna’s life were pretty wonderful. Because of her mother’s busy social schedule, Anna was often looked after by her grandmother – whom baby Anna was named after. They were often known by Anna One and Anna Two.
So Anna grew under her grandmother’s watchful eye, but not for long. Because Jessica began to get jealous, and all of her socialite friends told her that she should be raising her own child. So Jessica began to push her own mother away, and kept her daughter from seeing the older woman. From there, Anna’s life just got worse. Around the age of seven, she began to notice the fairies that were everywhere. But when she tried to point these strange creatures out to her mother, she was told that there was no one there, or that the person looked totally normal. After a while, Anna just stopped mentioning the things to her mother.
But growing up under Jessica’s wing was not the best. Jessica wanted to enter Anna in beauty pageants and take her to all her social events in glitzy dresses. And the child didn’t want any of it. Anna pitched fits and ripped many a dress in order to get out of going to these events and being showed off like a prize. Most of the time she resorted to hiding under her bed in her room until her mom left. And upon being alone in the house, Anna would read. And read. And read some more. This is how she came to be a recluse, and always keeping to herself, even at school. Anna didn’t socialize, turning to her studies, books, and art.
In 7th grade, Anna’s grandmother died of a heart attack in her sleep. Anna was devastated, and still isn’t really over this death. Though she didn’t get to spend as much time with her grandma after her mom went all crazy, Anna still loved the woman and would have done anything to have her back in her life for good. In high school, Anna didn’t change much, but somehow she caught the attention of the resident bad boy – Maxwell Tyree. Their worlds collided in sophomore year, when Anna got detention for a minor outburst at a teacher. Her life was never the same.
See, to pass the time, she’d been sketching, and it just so happened that the things she were sketching were the fairies that she’d seen around town. And when Max saw that, he began to pester her about it, though she claimed that they were just things from her imagination. She had no idea why this guy was so interested in the things she was drawing, but she tried to play it off. Still, when detention was finally over, he insisted on walking her out of the school. Of course she protested, but he didn’t listen, so she decided to just ignore him. As they were walking out of the school grounds, Anna looked up and saw a band of Unseelie Fairies. She tried to make Max go the other way, but he refused.
It was then that he pulled out a knife that looked like it was made of iron, and began to charge at the fairies. Anna was stunned. She hadn’t thought that anyone else would be able to see them. As Max took them down with his knife, Anna stood in shock and disbelief. When Max walked back over to her, she could only stare at him, trying to make sense of it. He explained that he was fairy hunter, something which she’d never heard of before. Though it did make sense as to how he could see the fairies. Anna admitted that she’d been able to see the creatures ever since she was little. And ever since that moment, Max and Anna became pretty much inseparable… She confided in him about her family, and he listened and said he’d protect her from anyone, human or fairy, that would try and hurt her. Somewhere along the way, Anna fell in love.
BEHIND THE CHARACTER;;
hey, so i'm lilly. i've been roleplaying for four years now. as well as this character, i also play no one yet. you can reach me by pm or chat or aim if you need me for anything. i found NEW ORLEANS HEAT by / on / from JACK and i'm pretty glad i did. here's an example of mah skillz. c:There was no way to tell time. No sunlight. No clocks, or watches. Just... blackness. Utter and complete darkness, the kind that seeps into the bones, leaving one feeling cold and empty, and feeling like... well, nothing. This wasn't Heaven, but it was far, far worse than Hell. Kaycie didn't feel as if she had a body, barely even a soul. Her memories drifted in and out, showing scenes of happy times with her parents, with friends at school... all the times she'd gotten in trouble, caused some sort of mayhem. Though that was mostly in her early years. Later into her teens, she became more lucid, peaceful.
Why am I here? she thought.
Perhaps... to learn something.
The voice was nowhere, and yet it was everywhere. It permeated her conscious, it was her conscious.
But what happened? I don't... I don't remember...
A flash of color, a scene replaying in her mind's eye.
The feel of leather against her neck and in her hands, fingers positioned just so on the device that was held gently, carefully. A click, a laugh, and the sound of music permeating through the air. The sound of another was there; her best friend, her companion since middle school. Looking up from the lens, she smiled over at him, waving, speaking words, asking him to come over. He shook his head, refusing, beckoning her back, telling her to get away from the cliff edge.
However, she felt that it could hardly be called a cliff. A drop off, perhaps, but not a cliff. It wasn't that steep, and not that high from the riverbank below. More laughter, placing her eye back to the camera, viewing the magnificent Arizona desert set out before her. Oh, how she loved nature, and all it's wonders. She took another step back... and another; ignoring the words of her friend, she inched closer to the edge, unafraid, feeling invincible. And perhaps karma decided she needed a reminder.
Rocks slid, her foot lost its holding, her finger hit the trigger of the camera a second before she was falling backward, heels over head, limbs going everywhere as she tried to stop herself, but to no avail. She heard shouting and screaming, perhaps her own, and perhaps that of her friend, the one she loved, had loved for all this time. And then she stopped falling. Blackness seeped into her mind. Flashes, blurs, murmurs of voices... Her memory became fuzzy, warped.
Then, nothing.
I fell... A stupid move on my part. Ohgods. What's happening now? Why can't I wake? I should be awake! Her thoughts, no matter how desperate, were to no avail, though. The blackness of the coma had taken over, and she could not bring herself out of it. She was pulled under once more, pulled back into the pure depths of the inky nothingness, almost as if she was ceasing to exist, her soul being sucked to a place she didn't want to go... Even then, her thoughts stopped, her conscious didn't respond, and Kaycie was once more held in an infinite Limbo.
