CHARACTER'S TITLE;;
of the seelie court
THE BASICS;;
Rylan Hannah March was born on May 27th, 1797, somewhere in the backwoods of England. She has always been a member of the Seelie court, and finds that it suits her personality. When the court moved to America, obviously she did as well. As the times changed, she tried hard to adjust, but is still rather old fashioned, as it were. Rylan always tries to help people when she can, and has a smile for anyone who passes her on the street. She’s fairly good with glamour, as well as the natural magic that all fairies have. Now, she helps to run a small produce stand, preferring to look after the plants and keep them fresh for customers.
APPEARANCE;;
Rylan is short, even for fairy standards. Standing at four feet ten inches, she has never been self-conscious about her height. In fact, she rather likes being short. It makes her a little different. With flaming red hair, as well, that’s not a difficult thing to achieve. Her skin is pale, though not overtly so because she spends a lot of time in the sun – but doesn’t manage to burn her skin like some fair people do. However, she does have quite a spattering of freckles across… well, everywhere, to be honest. Rylan also has a very strange birthmark on the inside of her wrist: a heart shaped pink spot that no one can seem to explain.
Though she has no other marks, and definitely no tattoos, she did get her ears pierced once, when she was rather young (about fifty years old or so), and still likes to wear earrings, from hoops to simple studs, and even to things a little more decorative (feathers, jewels, beads, or even a combination of these and other things). However, she has no other piercings, finding that her ears are enough to dress up, thank you.
Her style has changed with the ages, so with this century she prefers comfortable clothes, nice clothes, as well as clothes that she can get a little dirty in. (Gardening, silly.) Jeans, sweatpants, shorts, t-shirts, long sleeved shirts, and even sweatshirts are preferred for the first and last. Rylan will usually wear any color, though tends to stay away from green, unless it’s simply to accent. For nicer clothes, she likes to wear sundresses, skirts, blouses, button up shirts, and a pea coat she found on sale at a thrift store. Her shoes range from high heels to sneakers, as well. Rylan does not often wear khaki’s, though – they get messy too easily.
To those who can see through the glamour… Well, they may see something just a little different. Yes, her hair is the same, as well as her size, but in a true light, Rylan has a bit more of a pink tinge to her skin. Her eyes are a brighter green, like sunlight through leaves (she dulls this down with the glamour), and her wings are definitely more obvious. They are a translucent red, with a bit of sparkle, and they seem to be in a constant state of motion.
PERSONALITY;;
kind-
Rylan is never opposed to offering someone a hand if they need it. She’s the friend that is always there with a shoulder to cry on, or an ear to listen. She’s also been told that she’s good at giving advice. Often she likes to volunteer at places like soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and animal shelters. Everyone that she works says she has a sweet smile.
humor-
Laughter is the best medicine, as they say now, and Rylan can definitely provide some laughter. Though her humor is more clean than most, and often unintentional, making people laugh always makes her day better. It’s good when she can make someone smile that was recently frowning.
focused-
When given a task, Rylan sees it through with utmost focus and determination. Being a hard worker, she also doesn’t like to let people down. If she can’t do something one way, she will try other ways until she’s able to get it done. At the produce stand, she uses her powers over nature to keep the fruits and vegetables fresh, but otherwise doesn’t use her powers, mostly so she isn’t discovered for what she is.
negative:
-naïve
Though she’s rather smart, she’s still naïve to the ways of the modern world, and can often be taken advantage of, at least in smaller ways. Some say that she is too kind, and others say she just doesn’t know what she is doing. It’s a little of both, actually, but often she can tell when she’s being used if it’s something bigger than just ‘borrowing’ five dollars or being asked to pay the tab on a meal.
-temper
Though it does take a lot to get her angry, Rylan does have the typical red-head fury. Mostly, she doesn’t appreciate when someone criticizes the garden that keeps at her home, or if someone is just deliberately rude. Rylan also dislikes when people treat her as if she’s dumb, because she isn’t. She’s quite smart, if just a little of a pushover, and will often show the person wrong by spouting out the information she knows right in front of them.
-dirty
No, not dirty minded! Dirty as in she often forgets to clean out from under her finger nails, and some of her relaxing clothes have dirt stains from gardening. Though she showers on a regular bases, if she’s been gardening she often has that kind of look about her until she can get clean. It tends to put a few people off, but Rylan doesn’t particularly care. She’s just doing what she loves!
positive:
+happy
Every day, she has a smile for everyone who crosses her path, and she finds that even that can help to brighten people’s days. Often, she’ll also hum a song, some sort of catchy or random tune, especially when she is working in her garden. It helps her to keep focused, and also keeps her spirits lifted.
+curious
It’s a natural thing, and it’s not something that’s exaggerated, but Rylan can’t help but to look in places that are interesting, or open up a greeting card in the store to see what’s written inside. One could also say it’s a healthy curiosity that makes for good conversation, with questions and answers between her and whomever she’s speaking to.
+friendly
Must this be explained more? She likes people, and people tend to like her.
HISTORY;;
Rylan was born to fairies June and Fredrick sometime in the summer of 1979. They were very happy and proud of their little baby girl. In the present time, Rylan has very few full memories of her childhood, but there are moments that have stuck with her through all the centuries. There was the time, when she was ten years old, that her little brother, Sage, was born. And fifteen years later, when her sister, Juniper, was born. The three were pretty much inseparable for quite some time. When Rylan was around fifty years old – still a teenager to other fairies – she moved out on her own, and she was quite sad for some time because she missed her family.
Life went on, however, and she remained in the Seelie court, like her parents, and even helped with the changing of seasons on occasion (she liked Spring the best, when things were freshly growing). The first Spring she helped with is one she remembers quite well. She made quite a few friends, and even learned some new gardening skills as well. It was fun, and Rylan has kept in contact with those friends since then. The next thing she remembers is the death of her mother, who had accidently stumbled on some Unseelies who were feeding, and one of them killed her. It was devastating to the whole family, but Rylan took it particularly hard. She was very close to her mother, and still remembers many of the gardening and planting things that she was taught by June.
As the ages passed, Rylan and her siblings changed along with them. Rylan moved to America in 1900, and has decided that her favorite time period was the 1920’s. She loved the dresses and the fashions, and all the fellowship of people. Now, she’s moved to New Orleans and is soaking in the Cajun culture, while working at a produce stand and tending to her small garden at her modest home. At the moment, she’s rather content to stay out of the magic war, but feels that she may soon have to pick a side…
BEHIND THE CHARACTER;;
hey, so i'm lilly. i've been roleplaying for three years now. as well as this character, i also play none yet. you can reach me by pm is fine if you need me for anything. i found NEW ORLEANS HEAT on caution 2.0 and i'm pretty glad i did. here's an example of mah skillz. c:There was no way to tell time. No sunlight. No clocks, or watches. Just... blackness. Utter and complete darkness, the kind that seeps into the bones, leaving one feeling cold and empty, and feeling like... well, nothing. This wasn't Heaven, but it was far, far worse than Hell. Kaycie didn't feel as if she had a body, barely even a soul. Her memories drifted in and out, showing scenes of happy times with her parents, with friends at school... all the times she'd gotten in trouble, caused some sort of mayhem. Though that was mostly in her early years. Later into her teens, she became more lucid, peaceful.
Why am I here? she thought.
Perhaps... to learn something.
The voice was nowhere, and yet it was everywhere. It permeated her conscious, it was her conscious.
But what happened? I don't... I don't remember...
A flash of color, a scene replaying in her mind's eye.
The feel of leather against her neck and in her hands, fingers positioned just so on the device that was held gently, carefully. A click, a laugh, and the sound of music permeating through the air. The sound of another was there; her best friend, her companion since middle school. Looking up from the lens, she smiled over at him, waving, speaking words, asking him to come over. He shook his head, refusing, beckoning her back, telling her to get away from the cliff edge.
However, she felt that it could hardly be called a cliff. A drop off, perhaps, but not a cliff. It wasn't that steep, and not that high from the riverbank below. More laughter, placing her eye back to the camera, viewing the magnificent Arizona desert set out before her. Oh, how she loved nature, and all it's wonders. She took another step back... and another; ignoring the words of her friend, she inched closer to the edge, unafraid, feeling invincible. And perhaps karma decided she needed a reminder.
Rocks slid, her foot lost its holding, her finger hit the trigger of the camera a second before she was falling backward, heels over head, limbs going everywhere as she tried to stop herself, but to no avail. She heard shouting and screaming, perhaps her own, and perhaps that of her friend, the one she loved, had loved for all this time. And then she stopped falling. Blackness seeped into her mind. Flashes, blurs, murmurs of voices... Her memory became fuzzy, warped.
Then, nothing.
I fell... A stupid move on my part. Ohgods. What's happening now? Why can't I wake? I should be awake! Her thoughts, no matter how desperate, were to no avail, though. The blackness of the coma had taken over, and she could not bring herself out of it. She was pulled under once more, pulled back into the pure depths of the inky nothingness, almost as if she was ceasing to exist, her soul being sucked to a place she didn't want to go... Even then, her thoughts stopped, her conscious didn't respond, and Kaycie was once more held in an infinite Limbo.
